Senior Back End Developer – Java & AWS

North Sydney | Hybrid | Full-Time, Permanent

An innovative Australian SaaS company is looking for an experienced Senior Back End Developer to help scale a high-traffic, mission-critical cloud platform used by operational teams nationwide. You’ll work in a lean product-focused engineering team building secure, scalable systems with real-world impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and deploy new back-end features end-to-end
• Develop high-performance, scalable Java-based services
• Build and maintain secure API-driven systems
• Contribute to cloud infrastructure and DevOps (AWS, Terraform)
• Develop reliable third-party integrations (payments, finance, hardware, IoT)
• Collaborate with Product, UX and Engineering teams
• Produce clear technical documentation

Technical Environment

• Backend: Java (modern versions), AWS
• Infrastructure: Terraform
• Frontend exposure: React
• Integrations: Payments, accounting systems, hardware & IoT platforms

Required Experience

• 5+ years’ experience as a Back End Developer
• Strong commercial experience with Java
• Hands-on AWS experience (S3, Lambda preferred)
• Solid SQL and database fundamentals
• Experience with Spring Security and secure system design
• Strong background building RESTful APIs

Desirable

• SaaS product experience
• OAuth2 and modern authentication
• Exposure to B2B compliance or permissions-based platforms
• Startup or high-growth environment experience
